The V-Steam | Review

There is a beauty treatment done in Bali that has caught my eye for a while now…. Ok maybe not caught my eye but whenever I saw in on the ‘menu’ I will admit I was intrigued as to what it was and why someone would do that…

Yes, im talking about the V-Steam…. As in Vajayjay steam…. As in steaming your vagina.

V-Steaming has been around for hundreds of years, when I tried to research it the actual history seemed to be a bit inconsistent, some say it was done to brides the night before their wedding while others say it is was done as a way to revitalise and detox your uterus it is also thought to assist with menstrual cramps and increases fertility.

So as someone who is not a bride, not trying to get pregnant and doesn’t really suffer from bad menstrual cramps anymore (I know right, I’d hate me too) why the hell did I want to do it?

Well, it sounded a little bit kooky mixed with a side of spirituality… That shit gets me every time. I didn’t really care if it worked, I was trying it – and I somehow managed to con my travel companion Haylie along for the ride.

I figured it would be like a hug for the downstairs, a high five if you will… what ever the benefit, it couldn’t hurt right? So ‘when in Rome’ I decided to try something a little left of centre.

In the name of research, I voyaged ahead to get steam where no steam had ever been before…

So what actually is it?

It’s like a chair with a hole in the seat, similar to a toilet I suppose but it looks like a much more ‘classy’, lady chair. Under the hole is a bowl or steam machine with boiling water with a mixture of herbs. You sit down with your legs *ahem open and let the steam do its thang.

The actual steam part was actually ok, it got a little hot at some points but a quick readjustment on the throne and it was fine.

The part I didn’t expect and the part that I didn’t really enjoy was being ‘cleaned’ before and after…. yes, by cleaning I mean….they go over your special area with a wet towel, apparently it has some essential oils on it or something along those lines but still, it was my first time being ‘cleaned’ by a stranger and to be honest I don’t really care for it…. I feel like that particular part I could have taken care of all on my own.

The lady also stays in the room the entire time and massages your neck and shoulders, the massage is nice I suppose but again, I feel like the experience is something I could probably manage solo.

Luckily for me the past 12 years of pap smears and waxing appointments did somewhat prepare me for the experience of a stranger hanging around down there; plus the lady I had was absolutely lovely, she made the whole thing as comfortable as possible, we spent the 30 minutes sharing our life stories, giggling……. and steaming

Would I do it again?

Honestly probably not, while I liked the actual steam part and can see the benefits in it im not sure it’s something I feel the need to do on a regular basis. In saying that Im glad I gave it a go and if nothing else it’s another funny story to add to my witty repertoire. As for Haylie? She has vowed to never listen to me or my wacky ideas ever again…

The ladies in the salon also kept asking me if they could wash and blow dry my hair… I don’t understand why?

What about you, have you ever heard of a V-Steam? Are you game to try?
